This 15g ring began as a hand carved wax model before being sand cast in sterling silver, a process that leaves subtle organic textures and natural lines in the metal. This piece shows just one of the tasks we worked through: flush setting in wax.
The brief (thank you, Scott 🙌) was to create an asymmetrical, swirly, curved ring designed to house a flush-set 5mm cubic zirconia.

Confession time 😅 — I realised when I got home that I didn’t actually have a 5mm stone, so this one’s shown with a 3mm instead. But I like to think I stayed true to the spirit of the exercise, if not the exact measurements.

The original chain has been reshaped into a sculptural cuff,
the semi-hemispheres reborn as a statement ring and a softly reflective pendant.

This cuff just needs its final polish… and then the story is complete.

From past to present — and not a drop wasted ✨

This necklace had so much workmanship in its original life that I couldn’t bring myself to melt it down to oblivion. Instead, I took the long way around.

I soldered sections of the chain together (a serious test of my soldering patience and precision), then sent it through the rolling mill… again and again and again — at least 20 passes, maybe more, I lost count.

Photo 4 shows the transformation: compressed, unified, and full of character. I finished it by tidying the ends with rolled square wire to give it structure and intention.

Sustainable making isn’t always the fastest route, but it’s often the most rewarding.

Any guesses what this will become?
All will be revealed soon ✨
